Pine Sol Pregnancy Test – Ingredients and Instructions

The realization that you may possibly be pregnant comes with a whole truckload of emotions.

If you have been trying to conceive then there is the overwhelming sense that this may be the beginning of your journey as a mom. If it is a surprise pregnancy then you may have lots of worries and concerns that make this not such a happy time in your journey.

Either way, there is only one way to find out if you are pregnant for sure and that is by taking a pregnancy test. This may be a store-bought test or you may go to your doctors and take a test there. Which route you decide to take will depend on lots of factors in your personal story!

How Does A Traditional Pregnancy Test Work

Store-bought pregnancy tests are available from your local drugstore, pharmacy, grocery store, and even some dollar stores. They are usually inexpensive but like everything related to babies the price range can be huge.

You really don’t need anything fancy in your pregnancy test. Just a stick that you pee on and the change is seen in a little window.

Pregnancy tests are super accurate if they are used correctly. Drugstore bought tests work around 99% of the time, which is pretty good and are just as accurate as a test you can do at your doctor’s.

A pregnancy test works by checking your urine for a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin or hCG. This is only made by your body when you are pregnant. The level of hCG in your urine gradually increases the further along in your pregnancy that you are which is why it is best to take the test once you have missed a period.

Why Take A Pine Sol Pregnancy Test

For some women thinking that they are pregnant may not be the joyous occasion that it is for others. It may not be planned and if that is the case they may not want people to know.

If you live in a small town, the possibility of people seeing you buying a pregnancy test may be more than some women can handle at this time. If your roommate or even your partner sees you strutting into the bathroom with a pregnancy test then that is going to raise some obvious questions.

But if you go in with a bottle of Pine Sol then they probably wouldn’t raise an eyebrow.

The Pine Sol test offers you the privacy and the choice of when to tell people your news if in fact there is any news to tell!

How Accurate Is This Pregnancy Test

As I said above store-bought home pregnancy tests have a very high accuracy rate of 99% if used correctly. There are factors that will impact the accuracy of the test such as when you conceived, which directly relates to how much hCG is in your urine.

The Pine-Sol test has never been scientifically proven to be an accurate determination of pregnancy, so whatever your result it would be best to get this checked out either by your doctor or taking a store-bought test.

This is not a substitution for tests carried out by a medical professional and should be held in this regard from the beginning.

You need to be in the mindset that regardless of the test result here, you will need to seek medical advice shortly to be 100% certain.

How Does The Pine Sol Test Work

When you are pregnant your body produces a hormone called hCG, this is the hormone that helps to prepare your body to grow and develop a baby.

The concept behind this Pine-Sol test is that the hCG in your urine will react with the pine in the solution causing a chemical reaction in the Pine-Sol indicated by a change in color.

This test works slightly differently from the traditional store-bought tests as it only looks for the presence of hCG and not a specific level of hCG in your urine. This means that the test could be taken earlier than usual.

Ingredients

The ingredients needed are quite simple:

  • 1 bottle of Pine Sol
  • 2 plastic cups or bowls

That is basically it. The only other thing that you would need is a sample of first-morning urine and some privacy.

First-morning urine means a sample of your urine in the morning right after you wake up. This is because it is the sample that early on will provide you with the most accurate results. That first pee in the morning will have the most concentrated level of hCG in it, so if you are pregnant this is the one that is most likely to cause the chemical color change.

How To Do The Pine Sol Test

Again this is a straight forward process but it is important that you read and follow each step correctly.

  1. Start by collecting a sample of that first-morning pee in one of the plastic cups or bowls.
  2. If possible take the sample before you drink anything as this will ensure that it is super concentrated and will get you the best result.
  3. Once you have your sample, slowly pour some Pine-Sol into it.
  4. The result that you are looking for is a color change.
  5. For some women, the result will be instant and the same can be for a traditional pregnancy test, but for others, you may need to wait for up to 3 minutes.

As I have said before whatever the result may be, this is not a replacement for actual medical advice.

Positive Or Negative Result – What Does It look Like?

So, you have taken your test, what should the results look like whether they are positive or negative.

Some women have noted a color change from brown to a blue or green color. This would be considered a positive test. Congratulations you are pregnant!

Other women have noted a creamy or white color change. This can be considered a possible sign that you may be pregnant. But this color change could also mean that there was a flaw in how you took the test and as a result, you have had a false positive.

If there is no change in the color, this would mean that you have received a negative result. Your urine will simply blend into the brownish color of the original cleaner.

Which Pine Sol Should Be Used? Does It Matter?

A good question and you would think that the answer would be no but it’s not.

It is very important that you only use the original Pine Sol and not the scented versions. This original version does not contain any added colors or scents. It will amber/brown in color.

Another factor to check that will seriously impact the test is if the cleaner is out of date. You will need to check the labels on the bottle and they should have a recent date on them.

Test Turned White

Ok, so your test turned white. What does that mean?

It could mean a few things.

  • If it is more of a cloudy white it could mean that you are pregnant and the test is positive.
  • It could also mean that you overmixed the mixture and created foam rather than a color change.
  • If the mixture has turned a light yellow or ivory color then that could also mean that you are pregnant.

Are Bubbles A Sign Of Pregnancy?

Bubbles can also be a sign of a positive pregnancy test. But bubbles also occur naturally in the cleaning product, so you would have to determine which these are.

If you poured the two liquids together too quickly, then you may have created a soapy foam. If this is the case then you more than likely noticed a bit of splashback.

If you wait a minute these kinds of bubbles will subside and go away.

Bubbles or foam connected to a positive pregnancy test will occur no matter how carefully you add the two liquids together. It is possible that they may develop from the bottom of the cup and float to the surface.

As these bubbles are caused by a chemical reaction they will also tend to stick around.

So You Got Positive Results, What Now?

The possibility that you are pregnant from a positive pregnancy test can come with mixed emotions, these need to be acknowledged and you need to understand that the overwhelming feeling is totally normal.

This could potentially change your entire life!

But, you should also remember that there is a margin of error with any home pregnancy test and the only way to 100% confirm pregnancy is by seeking medical help and advice.

Due to such a wide variety of colors and changes constituting a positive result with the Pine Sol test, it would be advised that if there is any change no matter how small, you must seek advice from a health care professional as soon as possible.

This will also help you to start preparing for the next steps, whatever they may be.

Negative Result

This result can also have as much of an impact as a positive result. You may feel an overwhelming sense of failure, disappointment, or relief and again all these feelings are completely normal and need to be acknowledged.

You should still be cautious about taking the result as 100% proof that you are not pregnant. But instead should seek medical advice to confirm your next steps.

At The End Of The Day

This test is not scientifically proven to provide accurate results or even any results at all. Due to the sensitive nature of the outcome of the test, it is sometimes possible for you to see what you want to see in the test results.

If you are in any doubt that you may be pregnant whether planned or not planned, you need to seek medical advice and help as soon as possible. They will guide you through the tests and possible outcomes and they will also be able to offer advice and next steps if the result is not what you were hoping for.
