Bugaboo came to life almost two decades ago, producing innovative strollers that revolutionized parents’ expectations.
They continued to expand their range of products each one designed to make spending time with your children fun and exciting no matter where you go.
They were determined that family time should not be limited by the terrain, but those all-terrain strollers should also be stylish and of high quality.
We are going to compare two of the Bugaboo range, the Bugaboo Fox 2 vs the Bugaboo Fox.
In this article
Bugaboo Fox
The Bugaboo Fox is a single convertible stroller that comes with a toddler seat as well as a bassinet. It can also easily be turned into a travel system by adding a compatible infant car seat.
This stroller is not expandable, like the Bugaboo Donkey but you could add a wheeled board for an older child or preschooler.
Let’s Get The Background
The Bugaboo Fox came out in 2018 to replace the Bugaboo Buffalo, which was also an all-terrain stroller. But the Buffalo was much heavier and difficult to steer and push on tougher terrain.
The Fox held on to many of the great features of the Buffalo but the manufacturers also made some improvements. They reduced the weight by almost 5 pounds, now that, you can feel.
This stroller is great for city living and occasional strolls on more challenging terrain. It can also be used from birth right through to toddlerhood.
The Bugaboo Fox as all the other strollers in their range are not only functional and user friendly but they also look the part.
They are stylish and sophisticated, all the details are very cleverly designed and the entire stroller, parts, and all are built to last. The fabrics are high quality and soft to the touch, meaning they are great for a young baby’s delicate skin.
In 2020, Bugaboo upgraded the Fox to the Bugaboo Fox 2. The Fox 2 has an improved canopy, recline lever, fold triggers, and additional storage in the bassinet.
The Main Differences Between The Fox 2 vs The Fox
Bugaboo has made some great upgrades to the brand new Fox 2 stroller, here are the main differences between the Fox vs the Fox 2:
Upgraded canopy
The new canopy now comes with ventilation panels and also features a mesh peek-a-boo window.
The fold
The trigger points to fold the Fox 2 release much easier than on the original Fox.
Belly bar
The bar rotates on the Fox 2 making it easier to get your bay in and out of the toddler seat. The bar does not rotate on the original Fox.
Underbasket storage
Bugaboo got rid of one of the pockets in the basket giving it a cleaner look.
Fabric colors
Additional fabric colors have been added such as the gorgeous mineral collection.
Bugaboo Fox
The Bugaboo Fox is a great replacement for the Bugaboo Buffalo, which was heavy and difficult to push and steer on tougher terrain.
The Fox retained all the great features of the Buffalo but also underwent some upgrades to improve the functions that parents didn’t like.
Toddler Seat
This toddler seat is rather large and can be roomy even for a three-year-old, it is 14 inches wide and its maximum weight is 48.5 pounds meaning your little one won’t feel squished whilst using it.
The reversible feature allows your child to see what’s going on around them or face you depending on their personal preference.
The bucket-style seat also allows for full recline rather than just the backboard and can recline to 3 positions. You can recline the seat by simply pulling a lever and pulling the chair backward, and this can be done with one hand.
The only problem with this is that even on the furthest recline, the seat is not flat and your baby’s legs are bent meaning it can be uncomfortable for long journeys.
The most upright position is brilliant for children who are curious and like to see what’s happening around them
A 5-point harness is used to ensure ultimate safety for your little one. This harness can be adjusted to perfectly fit your toddler whilst still being comfortable.
Another great feature of this stroller is that it is 23 inches from the ground making it super easy to take children in and out.
This also means it can be used as a high chair for restaurants as some children feel more comfortable sitting in a place they are already familiar with.
The Bugaboo Fox toddler seat is available in 14 different colors allowing you to make it your own.
Canopy
The canopy on the Bugaboo Fox is very generous as it has three panels (one is accessible with a zipper).
When the three panels are open, it nearly completely covers your child from head to toe making it great at protecting them from the sun in both upright and laying down positions.
This can also be used with either one or two panels depending on how much protection and shade you want.
One feature that you would expect from such a high-end stroller is a parent window – but there isn’t. This does mean that when your baby is forward-facing you can’t check on them.
But there is a solution available. Bugaboo offers a canopy called Breezy sun canopy which has mesh side vents, a front zippered window, and a small peek-a-boo window.
The drawback is that it is an added cost to an already quite pricey stroller but on a positive note it is available in some very cool patterns.
Bassinet
The Fox comes with the bassinet fabrics that attach to the same frame as the toddler seat fabrics meaning you can use it from birth.
The completely flat design supports newborns’ spines whilst also being roomy enough to be comfortable.
The same canopy is used for both the toddler seat and the bassinet which means your little one is nearly 100% covered if you use all three panels with the bassinet.
The apron is super simple to remove as it is attached by a zipper and the handle allows you to carry the bassinet around without it being attached to the chassis.
You can still fold this stroller with the bassinet attached by reclining the bassinet.
The Bugaboo Fox bassinet also provides a safe and secure place for overnight sleep.
This is available in 5 different colors, black, grey melange, green melange, red melange, and blue melange allowing you to personalize it to fit your needs.
As this bassinet lays completely flat it can be used from birth and could also be used by a 9-month-old given how long it is (90cm). But if your child would rather use a stroller seat, they can do so after 6 months. The maximum weight for the bassinet is 9kg.
Handlebar
The height of the Bugaboo Fox handlebars can be adjusted to fit you with positions ranging from roughly 34.6 to 42.5 inches from the ground.
This is also really easy as all you need to do is unlock a latch on either side of the bar, either push or pull depending on which way you want to adjust it and then lock the latches.
The tallest position for these handlebars is great as they allow the stroller to be used by taller parents without them kicking the back wheels.
The handlebars also have a leather-style design giving it a stylish finish.

Wheels and Suspension
Most Bugaboo strollers have forever-air tyers meaning they can be used over rough terrain without you having to worry about punctures as these wheels don’t have to be inflated.
The stroller is easy to maneuver as the front wheels swivel but they can also be locked in a straight position for harder journeys over tougher terrain.
This stroller is as smooth as a jogging stroller but is still comfortable and supportive for your baby, ensuring they don’t get bumped around when you’re out and about. This is thanks to the advanced central-joint suspension and rear-wheel suspension.
The large wheels (front-8.5” back-12”) and shock-absorbing suspension allow the Bugaboo Fox to be used on gravel or grass.
The brilliant two-wheel position also allows the Fox to be used on sand and even snow. This position allows the Fox to be dragged behind you but this can feel heavy and slightly unstable.
Brakes
The Bugaboo Fox has a terrific brake that is operated by foot. The break is engaged by pressing a pedal next to the rear left pedal and disengaged by pressing the pedal again.
This is great as other stroller brakes are usually disengaged by lifting the pedal which can be uncomfortable if you aren’t wearing the right shoes.
There is also a color indicator to let you know whether the brake is engaged or not. The indicator is red when you press the brake and returns to green when it is released.
The pedal is placed very close to the storage basket underneath the stroller so you might want to be careful that you don’t kick the basket.
Storage Basket
The storage basket is very spacious and has a weight limit of 22 pounds. The basket can be easily accessed from the back and can also be accessed from the front when the seat is reclined.
The basket has a raised mesh lip on either end which keeps everything in place for times like when you have to tip the stroller back to get onto a curb.
Two additional pockets can also be found inside the basket which is perfect to slot your phone, a spare change of clothes, or some wipes into.
Size and Weight
The Bugaboo Fox is 23.6 inches wide which means it can easily fit through a standard doorway. It also only ways 21.8 pounds at its simplest configuration so it’s easy to lift in order to take in and out of a vehicle.
Folding
You can fold this stroller with either the bassinet or the toddler seat attached. The folding is rather simple but might take some time on the first try.
The handlebars need to be at the lowest position and then lower the seat by using the buttons on both sides, all that’s left is pulling the handle that’s behind the seat that will make the chassis fold.
The unit automatically locks and also stands unaided for easy transportation and storage.
Folding with the seat or bassinet still attached can take up quite a bit of room. To save space you might want to remove the seat or bassinet before folding, you can also remove the wheels for an even more compact fold.

This is compatible with all Bugaboo strollers and allows you to keep your water close by or your little ones drink.

Bugaboo Fox 2
The brand new Bugaboo Fox 2 is the perfect balance between comfort, design, and effortless handling and is ready to be taken anywhere.
It is a single convertible stroller that can be used from birth up to 4 years. The Fox 2’s advanced suspension and premium fabrics and padding provide ultimate comfort and safety for your little one.
Toddler Seat
The stroller seat is suitable for babies who have head and neck control. It has a maximum weight capacity of 48.5 pounds.
The seat is around 14 inches wide and 10.2 inches deep, so it provides a roomy and comfortable space for children up to 3 years old.
The stroller seat is reversible offering parents the options to put their children forward-facing or parent-facing. depending on their age and preference.
The bucket seat has three recline positions and can be used with just one hand – you just squeeze the lever on the rear of the seat and move the seat to the desired recline position.
Be aware that the fully reclined position does not provide a fully flat area and the baby’s legs are bent at the knee, so it may not be the most comfortable position for extended periods of time.
But it is perfectly comfortable for short naps while you are out and about. The fully upright position allows the baby to observe the world around them. This is great for those nosy toddlers who want to see everything that is going on.
The seat in the Fox 2 comes with a bumper bar that rotates allowing parents to easily remove or place a child in the seat.
There is of course a 5 point harness with adjustable straps. To lock the harness in place you do need to insert each strap individually into the central buckle – this can take a little bit of getting used to.
Another of the awesome features of the Fox 2 is that the seat is placed quite high off the ground, around 23 inches. This again makes taking your baby in and out super easy.
Canopy
As with the entire Bugaboo range, the canopy is extremely generous and comes in three panels. The third panel is accessed by a zipper.
When completely extended the canopy almost reaches the seat bottom, ensuring that your baby is protected from all weather. This is the same whether the seat is in the upright position or fully reclined.
The Fox 2 had an upgrade to its canopy for 2020 and now comes with two silent peek-a-boo windows. These windows not only allow parents to check on their children whenever they want but they also provide great airflow.
Bassinet
The Fox 2 comes has a range of bassinet fabrics available. These fabrics attach to the frame of the toddler seat. The bassinet then just clicks on the chassis in the same manner as the seat would.
The bassinet provides a completely flat position meaning that it is suitable for newborns.
It is quite roomy and deep providing plenty of room for your baby. It also uses the same canopy as the seat, providing plenty of privacy and protection for your baby.
The Fox 2 bassinet also comes with additional storage pockets on the outside. They are perfect for keeping your phone or keys within easy reach.
The apron is attached by a zipper but it is easily removed when needed. There is also a handy carrying handle for easier transportation.
The Fox 2 can also be completely folded with the bassinet still attached to the chassis. You just need to recline the bassinet as you would the seat and then fold the chassis. But it will take up quite a bit of room when folded.
Handlebar
The Fox 2 has a height-adjustable handlebar that easily moves in and out. There is a range of height settings from 34.6 to 42.5 inches from the ground allowing parents of all heights to find a comfortable position.
To adjust the height you need to unlock the two white buckles on either side of the handlebar, then slide it in or out to your desired height, and then lock the buckles again.
Extendable handlebars are a fantastic feature on a stroller allowing taller parents more room behind the stroller, meaning that they can comfortably push the stroller without kicking the rear axle or wheels.
Wheels and Suspension
It includes forever-air tires that can handle rough, bumpy terrain, yet still, provide your baby with a smooth and comfortable ride. These tires do not require inflating and you do not have to worry about punctures.
The front wheels are 8.5 inches and swivel, making this stroller agile and easy to maneuver. They can also be locked straight in order to navigate more difficult terrain. The rear wheels are 12 inches.
The Fox 2 also comes with central-joint suspension as well as rear-wheel suspension making the ride super stable. Another great feature is the ability to put the FOx 2 into a two-wheel position, allowing you to go through snow and sand.
Brakes
The Bugaboo Fox 2 comes with a great foot brake that you engage and disengage simply by pressing the pedal. The pedal is located next to the rear left wheel, is a good size and easy to reach.
These brakes also come with color indicators that show when the brake is engaged or disengaged. The indicator will show red when the brake is engaged and green when the brake is disengaged.
Storage Basket
An amazing spacious storage basket is another great feature of this stroller. The basket has a weight capacity of 22 pounds and can easily accommodate a large diaper bag.
Even when the seat is reclined you can still easily access the basket from both the front and rear.
Size and Weight
The Fox 2 is quite light at just 21.8 pounds and as it is only 23.6 inches wide, it will easily fit through doorways and elevators.
Folding
The Fox 2 can be folded with either the bassinet or seat still attached to the chassis.
Folding is quite easy but may take some practice, to begin with. Here are the step by step folding instructions:
- Set the handlebar to the lowest position
- Lift two buttons on the front of the frame and lower the seat unit.
- Pull the handle behind the seat and the chassis will close in half
The stroller comes with an automatic lock and self-stand for easier storage and transportation.

The Final Thought
I am a huge fan of Bugaboo after purchasing the Donkey when my youngest son was born as we also had a toddler.
They are not only extremely stylish strollers but they also come with some great features that make parents’ lives just a little bit stress-free.
They are quite expensive and personally, I saw the purchase of my donkey as more of an investment. They do hold their value so can easily be resold once you have finished with them.
