Toddlers have a short attention span, so with this in mind, try to pick a movie with a running time of no more than 90 minutes. If they are not happy to sit still for this length of time, it may be an idea to watch the movie in two shorter sessions.

Age-Appropriate

As has been stated above, not all movies that fall under the Disney umbrella are suitable for your toddler. Check the movie ratings, and if possible, try to watch the movie yourself before watching it with your toddler.

This will allow you to judge whether the movie is suitable for your child.

Simple Plot

Many of the Disney movies have complicated and intertwined plots. These may well be beyond the comprehension of a two-year-old, but do not underestimate your child.

1. Moana

Moana has a fantastic musical score by Lin-Manuel Miranda that will have both adults and children singing along in no time. The movie takes kids on an amazing journey across the ocean.

It teaches them valuable lessons about self-reliance and being true to one’s identity. Moana is a young Polynesian who is destined to be the next leader of her people. But she wants to travel beyond her native island to help her people to survive.

While on her daring mission, she meets the demigod Maui played by Dwayne Johnson, a very sparkly and greedy crab and a whole host of other characters.

2. Toy Story

Toy Story is the first movie in the Toy Story series. There are currently four movies in this series. We are introduced to Andy, and his group of toys – a T-Rex, Woody, and a wiener dog called Slinky are just a few of them.

Their lives are changed when Andy receives a fancy new toy for his birthday – Buzz Lightyear. Woody, who was Andy’s favorite toy, is ditched for Buzz and becomes a little jealous.

The story is how the toys all band together to save Buzz and stand by Andy and his family as they move to a new house.

3. Frozen

Frozen has captivated children across the world with its catchy songs, inspiring, and sometimes a comical story. Anna and Elsa are sisters but are complete opposites.

Elsa is cursed with ice powers, and her fear of hurting Anna keeps her locked away hidden from the world. On the other hand, Anna craves to explore the world outside and meet new people.

When Elsa accidentally freezes the kingdom of Arendelle and flees to the mountains, Anna is left in charge and decides to follow her sister into the mountains.

Along the way, she meets a quirky group mad up of Kristoff, who is in the business of ice and his lovable reindeer Sven, along with snowman Olaf who dreams of the summer.

The songs are catchy and will stick in your head no matter how hard you try to stop them!

4. The Lion King

The young lion cub Simba is destined to be king of the jungle as his father before him. But when his father dies in a stampede that Simba may have been responsible for, he must fight his evil Uncle Scar and take back his kingdom.

This move has a fantastic musical score, loveable characters such as Timon and Pumbaa, and great feel-good songs such as “Hakuna Matata.”

5. Peter Pan

This film is based on the original and timeless book by J.M. Barrie. The story is about how children never want to grow up. Late one night, Peter Pan flies into the Darling family home, where Wendy and her two younger brothers live.

The children are whisked back to Neverland by Peter and his fairy friend Tinkerbell. In Neverland, children never grow up, and this is where the Darlings meet the Lost Boys, and also where they must defeat the nasty Captain Hook.

6. Finding Nemo

A sheltered clownfish called Nemo wants to explore the world beyond his reef despite his father Marlin’s concerns. But when Nemo swims too far from safety and is captured by a diver, Marlin must set out on a desperate rescue mission to save his son.

Along the way, he meets a humourous and lovable blue fish named Dory, who suffers from short term memory loss, while dodging sharks and other perils along the way. Meanwhile, Nemo is trying to settle into his new home and meeting new friends along the way.

7. The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh

The adventures of Winnie the Pooh and his friends Piglet, Rabbit, Tiger, Eeyore, Kanga, Roo, and Christopher Robin have been around for many years and will still delight toddlers now. Watch as Winnie the Pooh and his friends go on some crazy adventures and get themselves into some very funny situations.

8. WALL – E

There is not much dialogue in the first part of this movie, but kids will still strangely captivated by it. Wall-E stands for waste allocation load lifter Earth-class, he is the last robot on Earth.

His main job is to clean up leftover trash from humans, but he finds a new purpose when he meets a female robot named EVE. This the beginning of a beautiful friendship that sees them travel across the galaxy -it also leaves children with an important message about how we should look after and preserve our planet!

9. Coco

Mexico’s Day of the Dead inspires this collaboration movie between Disney/Pixar. It won two Oscars for Best Animated Film and Best Song in 2017.

Miguel is a young boy who is forbidden to play music of any kind by his family, but he desperately wants to become a musician. He is magically transported to the Land of the Dead. Through his many adventures, he learns about his family and its love and traditions. Prepare yourself with plenty of tissues – you will cry a lot in this movie.

10. Beauty And The Beast

Belle is a book-loving and smart girl who does not fit in in her small village. She becomes the prisoner of the Beast who has fallen under the spell of an enchantress. The only way to break the spell is to learn to love and be loved in return. With the help of his enchanted servants, the Beast sets out to try to win the heart of the headstrong Belle.

11. Hercules

Greek mythology is brought to life in this animated movie. Baby Hercules, the son of Zeus and Hera, is snatched by Hades and taken to earth to live among mortals.

As a teenager, Hercules needs to prove his worth on Earth to show that he is worthy of living among the gods on Mount Olympus. With help from his friend Philoctetes, Hercules must learn to use his strength to defeat a host of evil creatures along the way.

12. Ralph Breaks The Internet

This movie takes place six years after Ralph saved the arcade from Turbo and his evil plan. The Sugar Rush arcade game is broken, making all those that reside in the game homeless. This includes Ralph’s beloved friend Vanellope. Both Ralph and Vanellope travel to the internet to repair the game and save everyone.

The Final Word

Disney has produced some amazing films over decades of film making from the early works of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to the more recent Toy Story 4. We highly recommend Moana because of the high ratings and wonderful story, but you can’t really go wrong.
