Diapers are a huge cost in the first year of your child’s life so cost is always at the forefront of any parent’s mind when choosing a diaper brand. There are a plethora of brands out there that all claim they are the best for keeping your baby’s skin dry, preventing diaper rash, or the best value for money. In this article I am going to do a Mom to Mom diaper review, this is a brand of diapers that is specifically available only at Safeway. They claim to be a good value for the money but does that mean that they do not perform in areas such as keeping your baby dry, drooping, and leakage? We’ll discuss this and more.

Mom to Mom is marketed as a brand that is designed by moms for moms. This gives the impression that they would have the same concerns and issues that you do with regard to diapers. They would have had the experience of leaking diapers and poo explosions so they would have designed a diaper to tackle these problems. As all moms know the fit of the diaper is key to preventing such unfortunate events. If a diaper does not fit snug to your baby’s body then leaks and explosions are inevitable!
Sizes Available
Mom to mom diapers come in a range of sizes from newborn to 3+ years. The complete size and weight list are:
- Newborn up to 10 lbs
- Size 1 8-14 lbs
- Size 2 12-18 lbs
- Size 3 16-28 lbs
- Size 4 22-37 lbs
- Size 5 27+lbs
- Size 6 35+lbs
The size range available is very comprehensive and in comparison to most major diaper brands, is on par. Mom to mom offers plenty of choice from the first diaper you ever need right up to potty training your toddler.
Features
These diapers come with a high stretch waistband and side tabs designed to ensure a snug fit each and every time. They are soft and contoured for a flexible fit that moves with your baby’s body. They also contain a soft hypoallergenic liner that contains vitamin E and aloe along with natural botanicals to protect sensitive and delicate skin. they also have leak guards and an ultra-absorbent core that locks wetness away from the skin. They have also been designed to be less bulky with a thin shaped core.

Absorbency
One of the greatest tests of a diaper and its absorbency is if your little one can get through the night without any leaks. These diapers come with an elasticated waistband to ensure a good fit at all times. This helps to prevent leaking and it also prevents any nasty surprises seeping out of the top of the diaper!

There are split opinions on the subject of absorbency, many parents have said that they are great and perform just as well as other well-known brands such as Huggies. However, there are also many parents who have said that once these diapers absorb any moisture they droop significantly and that their baby’s skin never feels dry as if the diaper does not pull enough moisture away from the baby’s skin. This is a disaster waiting to happen as if this is true then your baby is going to be more susceptible to diaper rash.
The issue of absorbency or maybe the lack of it may be due to these diapers appearing to be much thinner than market-leading competitors. This, of course, will result in a lower absorbency and the issues mentioned above. Another issue that some parents have mentioned is that the Mom to Mom diapers are stiff and inflexible when taken out of the packaging, this being the case, the fit to your baby’s body will never be close enough to prevent those leaks or explosions!
Cost
The cost of these diapers is generally $2-$5 cheaper per pack compared to other major brands. This will add up to a significant saving over the first year of your baby’s life alone. As they are only available through Safeway there are other options for adding to this saving. Coupons or bulk buying offers can significantly increase the saving you would make over a year.
The smaller sizes also have more diapers in them than the larger sizes, so this will also increase the saving you could possibly make in the first year.

Overall Mom to Mom diaper review
I have 5 children and have never been a diaper snob. In my children’s lifetime, I have no doubt used thousands of diapers. In that time I have used many different brands from the major players such as Pampers and Huggies to the supermarket own brands and to be completely honest the own brand diapers usually outperform the bigger brands in my experience.
You will always get parents who are die-hard fans of Pampers, Huggies, or another big diaper brand and that is ok. But if like me the thought of throwing away thousands of dollars on something that catches pee and poo makes your wallet shrivel up. Then it is also ok to try the cheaper supermarket brands and as long as they do not cause your baby any skin problems and perform as you would expect them to then use them and put the savings in your baby’s college fund!
So would I try the cheaper diaper brand, the answer is most definitely yes and until you have tried them for yourselves I don’t think that you can really discount them. After all, they may surprise you!
