Underjams vs GoodNites: Which Is Best In 2024?

Once our children crack potty training we as parents often think that is the end of our diaper buying time. But this can often be a little presumptive of us and can put extreme pressure on our children.

After all, there is a big difference between your child being potty trained in the day and dry through the night.

It can often take longer for them to be dry through the night as their body matures and they become more aware of the signals that they need to pee during the night.

Fortunately, there are other options available to help our children as they try to navigate this new stage in their life. Nighttime underwear or bedtime underwear is now widely available from a variety of different manufacturers.

The purpose of this underwear is to encourage children to still get up and use the toilet if they need to but also provide them with the peace of mind that if their body is not quite matured enough, they can still get a good night’s sleep and wake up dry.

We have looked at two of the leading products on the market at the moment UnderJams and Goodnites. The pros and cons of both and the main differences between them.

Are Daytime Diapers Suitable For Nighttime?

Children are no different from babies and require a good night’s sleep as it is important to their development, well-being, and health.

But in order to get this much-needed sleep and rest, they need to be able to remain comfortable throughout the night. The problem is that daytime diapers or regular diapers are not designed to hold their contents for long periods of time.

While nighttime diapers are designed for the purpose of holding their contents for extended periods of time such as overnight.

So what exactly is the difference between daytime and nighttime diapers?

Right, so you probably thought as I did that all diapers are the same and are all designed with the same purpose in mind. But how wrong we were. There is a big difference between these two products and also the purpose of their design.

Daytime/Regular Diapers

These are the ones that you are probably the most familiar with. They are designed to be thinner with less bulk in order that your child can move around more easily during the day.

These diapers are not designed to hold liquid for extended periods of time and should be changed regularly throughout the day.

Nighttime Diapers

The name kind of gives away their intended purpose. But in case you hadn’t guessed they are designed for use throughout the night. This means that they are thicker and are far more absorbent.

They are also made with a ring around the thigh area which makes them almost leakproof for those long periods of time.

Main Differences Between UnderJams And Goodnites

Although both these products look almost identical there are a few small differences between them. These differences may well influence the product that you think is right for your child.

Here are the main differences between UnderJams and Goodnites:

  • Goodnites, offer 40% more protection while UnderJams only offer 20% protection.
  • Goodnites are available in sizes XS to XL, while UnderJams are available in sizes S to XL.
  • UnderJams have an ultra-absorbent core that locks away wetness for up to twelve hours, while Goodnites offered a double leg barrier and 5 layer bedwetting protection.

UnderJams are available in designs for both boys and girls. Although neither performs differently they different designs are a nice touch for children and will help them to feel like they are more like underwear than a diaper.

The Pros

  • 20% more absorbent than most competitors.
  • The cut is high enough that it can make them more effective at holding wetness.

Bedwetting Tips For Parents Of Girls

  • Do not allow siblings to tease each other about bedwetting issues.
  • Talk to your daughter about UTIs and the importance of letting you know if it hurts when she pees.
  • Don’t stop your daughter from attending social situations. Instead, help her plan for a sleepover so she can change discreetly into their nighttime underwear and still enjoy the party. If your children are younger you may need to enlist the help of the parent of the other child.
  • Do not talk about your daughter’s bedwetting with her peers, children can be mean and cruel even more so as they move into adolescence. Bedwetting should be kept between you and your child.
  • Watch for emotional cues from your daughter. If she is getting distressed about bedwetting and your doctor isn’t taking the problem seriously, it may be time to consider consulting a psychologist or even looking for a new doctor.

Bedwetting Tips For Parents Of Boys

  • The American Association of Pediatrics (AAP), states that in two population studies boys were about 6 months behind girls when it came to potty training. This is likely to affect the likelihood of boys’ bedwetting.
  • For the vast majority of children, bedwetting does gradually stop on its own as their bodies mature. Almost all children have outgrown bedwetting by the time they reach their teens.
  • Try to show patience, support, and love rather than the frustration that can easily come when you are dealing with consistent bedwetting.
  • Be patient this phase will pass as all the others have before it.

UndeJams vs Goodnites – The Winner Is…

Both of these products have their advantages and disadvantages and either product will provide you with a great option for bedwetting. But there is no clear winner and it will very much come down to personal choice.

UnderJams are great in that they are made from a comfortable material that is still comfortable even after prolonged wearing but they do have less of a size range.

While Goodnites are great in that they are 40% more absorbent than most of their competitors and have a wider range of sizes.

But due to the cut of the product, they may not fit as well as expected and they are not the most comfortable of products. The best advice is to try both products and see which one is the best fit for your child.
