Luvs vs Pampers – Which Diapers are Best in 2024?

Choosing a diaper can be overwhelming but one of the best pieces of advice I can give is to listen to your baby. Just because one brand is voted the best by thousands of Moms does not necessarily mean it is the right choice for your baby. They are individuals and one size fits all mentality doesn’t work. There is an endless supply of diapers available on the market today. Each has its own features, this is what makes them different from all the other brands. But are they really that different? Luvs vs Pampers have many similar features and are even made by the same company – Proctor and Gamble. These guys are the inventors of the disposable diaper. They created Pampers way back in the ’60s, so they should know what they are doing, let’s have a look at the differences between their brands.

What are the Main Differences Between Luvs vs Pampers

There are two main differences between Luvs vs Pampers:

  • Price is the biggest- if you are looking for an economical brand to see you through from birth until toddlerhood, that won’t hurt your wallet, then Luvs would be a good choice.
  • Luvs diapers are scented, where as pampers have no odor. So if you are concerned about fragrances around your baby then you would be better looking at Pampers. This is something you will either love or hate, but many online reviews complain that the odor is very strong and most dislike it.

Luvs Ultra Leakguards

Luvs offer the complete diaper package, sized from newborn right through to toddler size. They were originally designed and marketed as the premium brand by Proctor and Gamble. They used better materials and features. But a few years ago this was changed and they became P&G economical brand.

Don’t be fooled they still have some fantastic features that will help keep your baby dry and comfortable for hours. For many parents, pricepoint is the deciding factor in which diapers their children wear not so much the features that they offer. This is where Luvs come into their own. They offer those great features at a more economical price to suit a lower budget.

Diapers Size 2, 228 Count - Luvs Ultra Leakguards Disposable Baby Diapers, ONE MONTH SUPPLY

Features

  • Triple leakguard is designed with three areas of absorption to help keep your baby’s skin dry. This means that these areas of absorption pull the wetness into the center of the diaper to help prevent leaks from the outside edges. This can sometimes mean that the middle of the diaper is heavier than the edges, this causes a sagging.
  • Nightlock locks away the wetness for up to 12 hours, meaning that if you are lucky enough to have a baby who sleeps all night then they can do so without worrying about leaks.
  • Super soft- made with super soft materials so that they feel comfortable against your baby’s skin. They are thinner than Pampers and this can lead to leaks. They are also far less cushioned, so if you are looking for your diaper to provide a soft landing for your little one as they learn to walk then this may be an issue.
  • Size range – Luvs offers diapers from newborn through to size 6. Size 6 is recommended for up to 35 pounds. They do not have a preemie diaper or trainers in their range. This may not be a worry for most parents and most children are potty trained before they reach a size 6. But remember the advice from earlier that one size does not fit all, well if you have a child who is in the above average weight range and not potty trained yet, you may be looking for a diaper that goes beyond 35 pounds. With this in mind you may find that Luvs will not see you through your complete diaper journey.

  • Wetness indicator, this is a cute little feature that takes all the guesswork out of knowing whether your baby is wet or not, especially in the first few weeks. Luvs wetness indicator turns blue when wet and it is positioned down the center of the diaper so it’s easy to access and view.
  • Luvs come with large stretch sides, these are designed to provide a secure and snug fit for your baby. This is especially important once they start moving around. The tabs are also refastenable for easy adjustment, also great for those wriggly babies.
  • Luvs diapers also come with some fun designs on them, this doesn’t alter their purpose of keeping your bay clean and dry but just adds a bit of fun to diaper changes.
  • These diapers also come scented, this is a little unusual but they smell like baby powder. Some parents love it and others hate it. Again this does not affect their purpose of use but may be a deal breaker for some.

Luvs Pros

  • Economical
  • Leakproof
  • Wetness indicator
  • Cute designs
  • Refastenable tabs

Luvs Cons

  • Odor can be overpowering
  • Diapers are very thin
  • Did not contour to baby’s body causing leaks
  • Issues with absorption and leaking

FAQ Luvs vs Pampers

How many diapers will I change a day?

In the first few months, you may find yourself changing diapers up to 10 times in 24 hours. Diapers should be changed whenever they are soiled or wet. There are some common times for changing diapers: right before or right after every feed; after every bowel movement or before bedtime.

What size diaper is right for my baby?

Each product gives guidelines that represent the average weight for a particular size diaper. But this can very much be a trial and error game as no two babies are the same.

Do Pampers or Luvs contain latex?

No, neither Pampers or Luvs contain latex. In the past, many diapers contained latex, today most diapers do not contain latex.

Luvs vs Pampers- Which comes out on top?

Luvs Diapers

The two main differences between Pampers and Luvs are the cost and the scent. Pampers are more expensive than Luvs and as I’ve previously stated this is often a deal-breaker for many parents trying to balance a budget. Babies go through a huge amount of diapers so they need to be economical. Luvs are scented and some parents have complained that the scent is extremely overpowering. This has been the deciding factor for many parents.

The bottom line is this both come with some fantastic features such as wetness indicator, various sizes, and cute designs. But if you can afford the long term investment of Pampers I would recommend those as they have some superior features that Luvs do not such as their 12 hours of protection, umbilical cord notch, and their blanket-like softness makes them second to none. Pampers are my winner and the winner for many parents all over the world.
