Foods That Cause Diaper Rash In Toddlers

There is nothing more heartbreaking than hearing your baby wail in pain because they have a diaper rash. If you have a toddler, you’re probably all too familiar with this cry. As babies get older, they eat a more diverse diet of foods.

Unfortunately, some of those foods are known for causing diaper rash. These are common foods that parents are encouraged to learn about as most of them are behind that nasty diaper rash.

Can Bananas Cause Diaper Rash?

If your little one has a banana allergy, this could result in an almost instant diarrhea and diaper rash after they eat a banana. Outside of children with a slight banana allergy, this fruit is safe to eat.

Bananas are not acidic like other fruits, such as oranges, and are not in the berry category, which is another group of fruits that can cause irritation. In fact, it’s recommended for toddlers with diaper rash because it can help with diarrhea.

Can Formula Cause Diaper Rash?

Yes, some baby formulas can cause a diaper rash. This rash is usually due to babies not being able to digest the formula properly. When this happens, they get diarrhea as well.

When a child has a milk allergy, it’s common for them to get a diaper rash from the formula. Usually switching to a soy-based formula or hypoallergenic formula will help.

Can Milk Or Whole Milk Cause Diaper Rash?

Yes, this is a common cause of diaper rash. A milk-based formula can cause diaper rash in children that are still on formula. This is usually due to a milk allergy, which can be moderate or severe.

Some children also have a hard time digesting the proteins that are found in milk. This can also lead to diarrhea and then diaper rash. Soy milk and almond milk are wonderful substitutes.

Can Carrots Cause Diaper Rash?

Most children will experience diaper rash from carrots due to a carrot allergy. Common symptoms of a food allergy include hives, eczema, swelling in the face or mouth, tingling in the mouth, wheezing, fainting, and indigestion.

However, there are some children that can get a diaper rash from carrots. If you notice that your little one is having a hard time digesting carrots or has a red diaper rash after eating this new food, the carrots did, in fact, cause a diaper rash.

Can Yogurt Cause Diaper Rash?

Yes! This is extremely common in little ones that have a dairy sensitivity or react badly to too much sugar.

If your toddler has difficulty with other dairy products, such as milk, they may have a milk intolerance and will not be able to eat some brands of yogurt.

Instead, opt for dairy-free yogurt or yogurt that does not have lactose in it if your toddler has lactose intolerance. The high sugar content can also be the culprit. You’ll notice that your little one gets diaper rash after eating a lot of sugar with this.

Greek yogurt is a nice solution to this problem because it has significantly less sugar in it.

Can Strawberries Cause Diaper Rash?

Strawberries are known for causing diaper rash. These fruits are acidic, and the acid is then excreted from the body when your little one poops.

They can also give your toddler diarrhea, which can both cause diaper rash and make it worse. If your little one loves strawberries, try to limit the amount to prevent diaper rash.

Can Apple Juice Cause Diaper Rash?

Apple juice can cause diaper rash, even when given in small amounts. It is acidic in nature, which can result in a red bottom. Apple juice is also packed with both artificial and natural sugars, which can give your toddler diaper rash.

To prevent diaper rash, mix apple juice half with water.

Can Blueberries Cause Diaper Rash?

Blueberries, like other berries, are so acidic that they can cause irritation and diaper rash. If your toddler eats too many, it can cause diarrhea.

Some little ones will get diaper rash without diarrhea because of how acidic these berries are. Limit how many they eat at one time to prevent diaper rash.

Can Eggs Cause Diaper Rash?

It is common for little ones with an egg allergy to develop diaper rash too. Eggs usually do not cause diaper rash unless a child has an egg allergy.

If your little one has an egg allergy, it can also cause hives, rash, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and other symptoms of indigestion such as cramps. When you notice these symptoms, stop feeding your toddler eggs and contact your pediatrician immediately.

Can Grapes Cause Diaper Rash?

Grapes, along with many other fruits, can cause diaper rash. While they will not cause diaper rash as quickly as acidic fruits, like berries, they can cause diaper rash in children that are sensitive to fruits.

They can also cause diaper rash if they are consumed in large quantities. To prevent this, only feed your toddler a few grapes at a time, and do not give them an entire bowl of grapes. If this does not help, do not feed them grapes at all.

Can Oranges Cause Diaper Rash?

Yes, oranges can cause diaper rash. Because they are acidic in nature, children are more likely to get diaper rash from oranges and orange juice than they are other fruits, such as bananas.

If your toddler loves fruit, as most of them do, try to limit how much they consume. One eight-ounce glass of orange juice is all they should have per day. If this results in diaper rash, mix it half with water.

One fruit cup of oranges per day is also plenty provided they are still getting their recommended daily amount from other fruits and juices.

Final Word

Allergies and specific fruits, such as berries and acidic fruits, are known for causing diaper rash. If your child experiences common symptoms of a food allergy along with their diaper rash, consult a doctor immediately.

For other diaper rash, limit foods that are known for resulting in irritation and treat the diaper rash with over the counter creams. If the rash persists, consult your pediatrician. Limiting foods that cause irritation is usually the best option.
