What are the Main Differences between Elecare vs Neocate?

There is a key difference between these formulas in that Neocate is absolutely 100% free from GMO organisms.

To be honest there are very few differences between these products at all. The only other important difference is the price tag, the Neocate is more expensive than the Elecare.

Neocate also contains more calories and a higher fat content per 100 grams than the Elecare. There is more Iron and Manganese in Elecare than Neocate. Almost double the Manganese in the Elecare as there is the Neocate. This is important as it contributes to the metabolism of amino acids, cholesterol, glucose, and carbohydrates. So for a formula that is designed for babies with digestive issues, this is quite an important mineral.

Elecare

Elecare is an amino acid-based formula specifically designed for babies who cannot tolerate intact or hydrolyzed protein. Which for the layperson among us means that it is designed for those babies that can not tolerate intact cow’s milk protein.

Amino acids are an easy to digest nutrient and a source protein for your baby. These proteins are broken down, making them easier to digest, which should mean that your baby will not suffer from colic.

This formula is hypoallergenic and has been clinically proven to support the growth of exclusively formula-fed babies. Elecare helps to manage the symptoms that are consistent with severe food allergies and GI conditions.

EleCare Jr Amino Acid Based Medical Food, Ages 1+, Unflavored 14.1 oz (Pack of 2)

It uses Corn Syrup solids as its main ingredient, followed by High Oleic safflower which other formula manufacturers have moved away from.  The third ingredient is triglycerides, these all provide the protein, carbohydrates, and fat that your baby needs to ensure that they meet and exceed all their milestones in their first year. This formula contains around 475 calories per 100g and has 23 grams of fat.

Elecare contains 35 vitamins and minerals including iron, vitamin A and D. All of these are vital in providing your baby with the building blocks that they need to grow their body and mind. The formula also contains DHA and ARA which are typically found in breast milk. They support brain and eye development in your baby.

  • DHA and ARA for brain and eye development.
  • Does not contain intact protein

FAQ Elecare vs Neocate

How long does it take to see results with Neocate?

Some parents have advised that they have noticed changes within the first few days of using Neocate but change takes time and every baby is different. Research shows that it can take 2 weeks to see the full improvement in signs and symptoms of food allergy.

Can you store Neocate frozen?

It is not recommended. Freezing temperatures below 32 degrees Fahrenheit can affect some nutrient levels. Some vitamins do not hold up well under really cold temperatures. Also, frozen Neocate that thaws may discolor and separate into different layers. Neocate can not guarantee the nutrient content or quality of their products.

Final Verdict – Elecare vs Neocate

There is no real winner here, the aim is to provide you with enough information for you to make an informed choice. This is so important when you have other issues like allergies that influence your final decision. Both these formulas are almost identical. They may have slightly different vitamin and mineral content but all meet the legal requirements and in fact many exceed them.

The Neocate is more expensive so this may push it out of contention with many parents. As the formula is an ongoing cost for babies in their first year it can potentially run into thousands of dollars. All though if you are getting to the point that these types of formula are your last resort, the cost is more than likely the furthest thing from your mind!
